Biography[edit]
Vosyem is a Russian dragon in the Twenty-Sixth Regiment of the Air, though she does not know it. Her captain, Ivan Rozhkov, was left in charge of all human matters. She was only concerned with her great treasure, which she slept on like a bed. She did not speak Russian, only a feral language similar to Durzagh.
Temeraire noted of Vosyem, "She had a peculiar appearance: her body was sheathed in great plates of bony armor overlapping one another, not unlike the Prussian dragons Temeraire had met before, but to a far greater extent, and she seemed to bulge strangely underneath them: thick rolls swelled over her shoulders, and a large hump upon her back. Steel spikes and great steel rings had been bolted to her natural armor, silver over the natural green coloration of her hide, and were bristling all over her body; she was enormous, larger than himself and nearly as great as Maximus." (Blood of Tyrants, p. 322)
Vosyem and Tri, according to Temeraire's observations, looked "very imposing...despite their size, they demonstrated a remarkable speed. Their steel-taloned claws and long necks lashed out very much as though...there was gunpowder lit behind them. But as they demonstrated their fighting qualities, for the most part, by quarreling with one another and knocking about the smaller beasts...they were all outrageously quarrelsome with one another, at least the heavy-weights were." (Blood of Tyrants, p. 337-340)
Temeraire noticed that there didn't seem to be very many of Vosyem and Tri's breed, and all had wounds of some sort that had not been treated properly. At least three had pistol-balls still lodged into their hides.
The name "Vosyem" means "Eight" in Russian.
