I'll update this page later, but I think we should add some extra notes. The Yellow Emperor of the Temeraire books is without a doubt a draconic version of a historical figure (like Lung Li Po). The Yellow Emperor was not the founder of the Han Dynasty, but the ancestor of the Han ethnic group itself (presumably a translation error on Sir Edward Howe's part). Unless Naomi Novik has specifically moved him ahead in time, I think we could add that his DOB is c.2697 BC. We could also speculate on his draconic name (The Yellow Emperor's name was Huang-di, although his personal name was Gōngsūn Xuānyuán. Maybe he was Lung Tien Huang-di?). Maybe NN (or Sir Edward) confused the Yellow Emperor Huang-di (黃帝, literally "Yellow Emperor") with Shi Huangdi (始皇帝, literally "first sovereign emperor")? Di is the title for "Emperor", and would not normally be part of a name as such. In either case, this raises the interesting question of whether the yellow coloration was merely folkloric, or whether Celestials (and Imperials?) have gradually shifted/restricted their colors over time. --Wombat1138 10:15, 19 August 2010 (PDT)

Moronic site just screwed up and deleted the entire page I wrote, so I'll have to type things up later. Basically, I added a section talking about the Yellow Emperor's names, added a link to the Dragon Myth Book and mentioned below that he historically wasn't linked to the Han Dynasty, but that that could be explained as being an inconsistency by Sir Edward Howe; perhaps as you suggested, he confused him with Qin Shi Huangdi, or perhaps he misread the thing about the Yellow Emperor being the ancestor of the Huaxia, or perhaps the "advice" was written material that was used in some way when the Han Dynasty was founded. Someone else could give this a go if they want. Almaron 01:44, 21 August 2011 (MDT)
