Raiden was a mythological dragon written about in Sir Edward Howe's book on Oriental dragons. He was said to have driven the army of Kublai Khan out of Japan. This is a nod to a Japanese God of Thunderstorms named Raijin, who was supposed to have been responsible for the storm that sank Kublai Khan's armada.
