His egg didn't harden properly, it hardened too early what hurt Xian but it was still too fragile to get layed. Xian asked the doctors to have an operation but they refused, what meant dead to mother and child. It would have been possible to stabilize the shell with some sort of clay until the dragonet hatches. So Xian clawed herself to bring the egg out but then died due to an infection.
