Biography
Qian was the daughter of Lung Tien Xian. Her sons were Temeraire and Lung Tien Chuan; the Imperial Lung Qin Gao was their father. She resided in Peking, in the Ten Thousand Lotus Palace. She is described as a dignified lady with impeccable manners. As her scales were slighly translucent, she must have been a very old dragon. According to Sun Kai the Emperor respected her opinion, which indicated her privileged position in the court.
Although dragons as a rule are not maternal, Qian behaved affectionately towards Temeraire. As she was convinced that Celestials should not fight, she was not pleased to learn that Temeraire had been serving in the British army. However, she was somewhat mollified by Laurence's descent from the Plantagenet kings of medieval England, since by Chinese standards this made him more than a common soldier.
She let Temeraire choose a sword for Laurence from her own things, because in China it is customary for the sire and the dam to give a present to the dragon's companion. This might be interpreted as a silent blessing, since it took place before Laurence had been adopted by the Jiaqing Emperor.
If she had a companion herself, they were never mentioned. Quite possibly she had outlived her last companion.
