Mei was an attendant to Lung Tien Qian. She was extremely intelligent and beautiful. Temeraire took a particular liking to her when he was in China. Apparently the liking was returned, and they became temporary mates. Temeraire was very sad when he left her.
In 1812, Temeraire reunited with Mei during his visit to China with Laurence and the British envoy. After the death of Lung Tien Chuan, Temeraire accepted Mei's proposal to try and conceive a Celestial egg to be Prince Mianning's new companion. Despite several matings, however, Mei and Temeraire failed to produce an egg. Instead, the egg of Temeraire and Iskierka was left under Imperial care in China, with the hopes that it may hatch into a new Celestial to be the prince's companion, and thus, return Mianning his full royal status.
