Biography

Jia Zhen was the chief of the Chinese trading outpost at Larrakia. It took him two weeks on dragon-back to reach the harbor. He provided Temeraire with fancy robes for William Laurence to wear to dinner with all the traders. Later, when the British Navy attacked the port, Temeraire wanted to scare them off, using the divine wind on the ocean waves as Lung Tien Lien had at the Battle of Shoeburyness, and Laurence feared that Jia Zhen had bought his affections. Jia Zhen refused to close the port, saying it was too difficult to keep the sea-serpents trained without using them regularly.
