De Guignes had a nephew in the Armee de l’Air, who was captured by the Aerial Corps after attempting to board and take Temeraire in 1805.
In 1807, de Guignes was posted to Paris, and there received William Laurence and Temeraire when they delivered the African fungus capable of curing the Dragon Plague to France.
