Conterrenis died during the Dragon Plague; he was the first Longwing killed by it. His death was particularly grisly, as his coughing continued to bring up acid until he seared himself, exposing the bones of his jaw. His captain, Gardenley, was forced to shoot her own dragon.
The name may be based on the Latin conterrens ("terrifying"), the present participle of the verb conterreo, conterrere ("to terrify"). The participle's correct genitive singular would be conterrentis.
