"Turkestan"
Not a country; Turkestan was a label used by Western cartographers to refer to Central Asia. At this point in time, "Turkestan" was occupied by Persia, the independent states of Badakhshan, Bukhara, Kandaz, Khiva and Kokand, and the unorganised lands inhabited by the Kazahk people. Arkady and his group of feral dragons are believed to have come from the Pamir Mountains, which lie amidst several of the aforementioned independent states.
