St. Germain was captain to a Longwing named Mortiferus. Her injury during a battle in or near Toulon, possible the Siege of Toulon in 1793, caused something of a ruckus when an Army officer discovered that she was a woman. It was not commonly known outside the Aerial Corps that the Corps included female officers.
William Laurence described her as being very tall and fat with delicate features, rather Rubenesque.
