Biography[edit]

St. Germain was captain to a Longwing named Mortiferus. Her injury in action at the French port of Toulon, possibly in connection with blockade at Toulon maintained by the British during 1803 through early 1805 (see Toulon, Nelson), caused something of a ruckus when an Army officer discovered that she was a woman. It was not commonly known outside the Aerial Corps that the Corps included female officers.

William Laurence described her as being very tall and fat with delicate features, rather Rubenesque.
