FanArt Contest: Old Temeraire

Every Friday a new piece of artwork from the fanart contest will be posted on this website!

Old Temeraire by Sarah Arcand

“A brief future scene of Temeraire as a very old dragon.” — Naomi

Each of these weekly pieces of art will be a part of a small, Subterranean Press hardcover with a 16-page full color gallery, and it will include a total of 32 pieces, with about 20,000 words total of new fiction included. I will probably end up combining and writing slightly longer stories for more than one piece, but each one will at least get a drabble’s-worth to its name!

Sub Press will produce a limited edition of 400 leatherbound copies signed by me (probably around $45), and somewhere between 1000-2000 hardcovers (around $20-25). And I will eventually be putting up the stories themselves online at least once the book sells out, so if these are out of your range, do not fear! You will get to read the stories! The book should hopefully be out before the end of this year, but we’ll see.

To be notified when this book goes on sale, join the Sub Press newsletter HERE!

Until next week!

  1. One of my favorite things is imagining Temeraire as an old dragon and his reactions to modern technology, particularly things like aircraft carriers and submarines. In these musings he’s always saying things like “If only Laurence could see this.”

    • I always wonder though if they would go on to build planes and submarines though. Submarines would make sense, since the only underwater transport in the temeraire world that we know of are sea serpents, and no one wants to be um… “transported” in one of those. I dont think they would really build air planes though. Since it was the Wright bro’s who basically invented them, I think they’d probably just buy a dragon egg instead. i would love to see his reactions to things like computers and space travel though.

  2. Nope, sorry, FANTASTIC artwork (the color is glorious!), but not ready to deal with “Old” Temeraire. Naomi, you do understand that he and Lawrence must be young and healthy FOREVER, right????

    Good. Just checking. ;-)

  3. I hope Temeraire and Lawrence will be in my life every day. I love the books and your artwork is WOW!
hope to join in the film.

  4. Naomi pozdrowienia i podziękowania z “Próbę złota” właśnie skończyłem czytać. Dla mnie lepsza niż “Języki węży’
    Kiedy dalsze opowiesci ?

  5. My dear Falchion Wielder,
Where’s your tact? But to answer your query, I did make an attempt at his breast plate. Ultimately though, I decided not to include it in this sculpture.
