FanArt Contest: Glad for the Company

Every Friday a new piece of artwork from the fanart contest will be posted on this website!

NOTE: This is a cropped version of an explicit sexual scene found if the image is clicked on. If you are not over 18 years old, do not click on it! You have been warned!

Glad for the Company by Unknown

“This will be a missing scene set in Brazil, from between Crucible of Gold and book 8 (tentatively called Luck and Palaces). I feel like possibly I need to rise to the challenge and write an explicit scene, here, but I reserve the right to chicken out. :P ” — Naomi

Each of these weekly pieces of art will be a part of a small, Subterranean Press hardcover with a 16-page full color gallery, and it will include a total of 32 pieces, with about 20,000 words total of new fiction included. I will probably end up combining and writing slightly longer stories for more than one piece, but each one will at least get a drabble’s-worth to its name!

Sub Press will produce a limited edition of 400 leatherbound copies signed by me (probably around $45), and somewhere between 1000-2000 hardcovers (around $20-25). And I will eventually be putting up the stories themselves online at least once the book sells out, so if these are out of your range, do not fear! You will get to read the stories! The book should hopefully be out before the end of this year, but we’ll see.

To be notified when this book goes on sale, join the Sub Press newsletter HERE!

Until next week!

  1. ewh, i didn’t want to see iskierka and temeraire mating….
at least not in this way lol xD
still, i love how this pic is set and made.
    good job!

      • You have proof from the thread below and the submitter commented that this art was not drawn by the submitter. Please edit the post accordingly. It is unfair to the artist to be miscredited, especially on the official Temeraire website.

  2. Oh, Temeraire, you naughty boy! Great picture, made me laugh.

I’ve only read the first book of the series, and I truly enjoyed it. I love the connection between Lawerence and Temeraire. My mom is the “big fan” and she loves Temeraire :)

The writing is astonishingly amazing and fluent. I love how it isn’t written in modern-day speech, and I love how dragons (dragons!!!!) replaced aircraft in a great part of our history.

    Inspiring and beautiful!

  3. Oh yes.
I know that pic. I watch the artist’s work.

Also, while the image was submitted by Kaelyb Suchevits, they aren’t the artist. They merely submitted it on behalf of the artist, as he had stated that he wasn’t going to, for fear of offending you (Naomi). http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3537913/

  4. Àh, this is probably a well known picture furaffinity, and the artist is quite skilled. I am quite fond of this picture because of its great quality and association with my favorite books, I hope the original artist gets his credit.

  5. I have only two things to say about this….. One, (to the person who posted it) that it is totally inapropriate for it to be on this site. Two, ( to Temeraire..Lol) have fun explaining this to Mei… I don’t think she is goning to be very happy with you.

    • I forgot to mention…if this works two things are garunteed to happen.
the firstthat is gonna be one awsome looking hatchling……with a combination of colors from both parents , a ruff like it’s father and the spikes like mother. the second thin the poweres it will have either of the parents one would be fine but both and being able to swtich beteween them or if they combined…there you get a primitive thermo-bearic weapon aka fire with preasure (divine wind) behind it….look out Nappy and Lien here they come

    • I can’t wait to see that showdown! I want Iskierka and Mei to totally duke it over over Temeraire! As for the picture, well I was not expecting that at all…but the artist is very talented at drawing dragons and uh anatomy. Good, unexpected and shocking work! I am all fore Temeraire and Iskierka hooking up and having a totally awesome dragon hatchling fire breathing devine wind blowing hatchling that will deffeat Nappy and Lein, I just didn’t expect to see the concieving of it.

  6. I’m just writing to let you guys know that I didn’t submit this and don’t appreciate my name being attached to it. This art belongs to Slate as it says in the corner and I want the credit to be given to where it is due. Thank you.

  7. Ahem…

Dragons in the Temeraire-verse are, in essentials, reptilian. I’m assuming they’re archosaurs (along with dinosaurs, birds and otherwise, pterosaurs, and crocodilians). Either way, what they definitely aren’t is mammals. In short, that is not how mating would work under the circumstances. Penis: Mostly a mammalian thing. External testes: Absolutely a mammalian thing.

    The more you know.

    • reptiles have penis’s, but no external genetalia. this is completely how mating would work out.

  8. Hahahaha! This picture just made my day! I can’t wait to read the story you put with this one! XD

  9. Not that i dont like this picture, but it doesnt fit on your website. At least not like that.

  10. I actually DID do a story on this very picture, a while back. http://www.sofurry.com/view/242441 Thats a link to said story, and it is on an ADULT website, so no viewing if your underage! It was fun to write, and I love the Temeraire series, the story and characters are so in depth.

  11. Finally some artist, who isn’t freaked out by a picture like this and who thinks it’s a really interesting idea to write about it. I love how open and honest you are Naomi and by putting this amazing piece of art on your website you’ve shown you really are strong and courageous person.

  12. Game of Thrones + Temeraire + Furries = this.

Yeah, this is all kinds of wrong.

Wrong anatomy, wrong forum, and even wrong artist, apparently. Makes me wish there was a “do not like” button.

  13. There have been hints Temeraire and Iskiera would mate. But the biology of the dragons so far has indicated reptilian, perhaps warm blooded like the dinosaurs in our world. That means no external genitilia. These dragons should be pressing their cloacas together in grand reptilian fashion. At least the tail wrapping part is biologically correct.

  14. Naomi, please never never write an explicit scene in the books – it would ruin the atmosphere.

    • You read the books? You know that in the books there has evern been a soft mature/adult subtheme because the characters are all grown men, women and mature dragons? This don’t fall into obscenity of course, but a soft description (and a very genuine one) of sexuality.

  15. i beg you naomi plz dont write about this my kids is reading this serie and they love it but, it wouldent be so fun for me too take away a book from them and they wouldent bee so happy if this comming out on film and its for 18 years

    • Temeraire series it’s not exactly for very little kids. There are teen’s themes and you will be probably “shocked” to know that in the books actually Temeraire mate with multiple females and sometimes characters speak of sex and there is also a couple of character that conceive a child by accident…. or maybe not! Because growing kids start learning some things, and it’s a good thing that will help them turning in responsable adults.
Of course a very detailed scene could be possibly “too much”, but soft sexuality is already present in the book series.

    • Considering the Temeraire series features:
Sword fighting, some fairly heavy civil-rights stuff, several scenes that feature violent death (or outright massacres,-like the pavilion in Throne of Jade), not to mention massed musket\bayonet warfare I really can’t see this film being rated below M15+

    • I just hope that when they do make the film, they have the right director. Temeraire has the potential to be very good, or very bad!

  16. I would love to see a explicit scene written by the creator of this awesome series, having nearly finished book 7, just readding the part were the mateing occurs.

While I know it would never make it into a book, of course, but who says you cannot put it else were?

Hope Youre reading this Naomi, Keep up the good work!

    • Well.. you’ve just to think at this art without the small figure of Laurence appearing! XD and it’s almost the same,
BTW, i’ve even re-drawn (with my much less skill v.v) the whole scene in funny style: it was simply too nice to not do it ^^
(and got some hate-comments myself, LOL)

However i think she did well… it’s true after all that there are also teens to read the books: it’s good some mature elements, but without too much explicit detail ; )

  17. Very nice picture. :D I’m not sure about dragons’ anatomy but I’m intrigued by Iskierka’s/Temeraire’s future hatchling. I suppose the divine wind and fire-breathing are too different from each other to exist in one dragon, though it depends of the writer. :)
